January 21, 2020 -- "The Lady of Shalott" Mimesis Assignment
What is mimesis? Ms. Lowe defines it as the following: "a concept in literary theory of 're-presentation;' mimicking the style of a particular artist purposefully in your own work."
Today, you will be completing a mimesis writing piece based on Tennyson's "The Lady of Shalott." Here's the plan:
1. Choose familiar fairy tale or other short story that you know well. (Think Disney movies.)
2. Retell the story in the format and style of TLOS -- use the rhyme scheme and rhythm as much as possibly and try to evoke a similar tone.
3. Your version should be at least four (4) stanzas long. (The length of one of Tennyson's parts.)
4. It should be typed, Times New Roman 12 point font, and free of spelling/grammar errors.
5. This assignment is worth 25 points. It's less about writing an awe-inspiring poem than about understanding Tennyson's form and being able to replicate it with your own ideas.
